RRCG meeting in Bosnia
Sarajevo , April 24th 2018 – In the office of Izvor Centar in Sarajevo, the Refugee Response Cluster Group had its first meeting. Participants were representatives of Protestant religious communities and NGOs. The focus of the meeting was finding constructive ways of providing support to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina through working to help refugees.
The initiative for the meeting came from Mr. Elvis Džafić, theologian by vocation, currently working as the advisor for program development with the Croatian Baptist Aid. Among the participants were the president of the Baptist Union in Bosnia, Tomislav Dobutović, the General secretary of the Evangelical Alliance in Bosnia, Saša Nikolinović, Kathy and Mark Eikost and Todd Dinus representing Izvor Centar NGO, Carolin Eisenring and Claudia Costa representing Operation Mobilization, Curt and Sara Hobbs and Katie and Christ Sasser representing the Assemblies of God, Damir Trbić and Katie McCraw representing Novi Most International, Jessica Lazdins Vuk representing the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students BIH, Boro Gojić representing Proslavi Oporavak, and Vanesa Jezdimir representing Ministry Resource Network.
Participants had the opportunity to learn and talk about the context of the refugee crisis on a global scale, as well as to learn about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Džafić presented various ways in which Protestant communities and NGOs can provide support and help people in need regardless of their religious or any other identity. Mr. Džafić commented that: “Guided by principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence, we as Protestant communities and NGOs have a lot to offer Bosnian society and contribute to its stability and health.” He added that these aspirations for a more stable and healthy society in Bosnia can also be made possible through better and open dialog with other religious communities that are part of the Interreligious Council.
As a result of the meeting, Vanesa Jezdimir was appointed as coordinator for the work of the RRCG for the next two months, to work alongisde Mr. Džafić in providing help to the refugees.
