Community Development Training by CBAid
“Life Centar” Crikvenica, March 25th to 27th, 2019 – First seminar in community development was held at the Adriatic coast.
Humanitarian organization Croatian Baptist Aid, whose mission is preventing human suffering, serving to the needy, and empowering individuals and the society through holistic support, organized the first training in the field of “Community Development”. The training was successfully organized and realized in cooperation with Mr. Eric Maroney, Regional leader of International Mission Board. The training gathered individuals who have already been actively working in improving the quality of life in their communities. Thanks to Mr. Marony, the training was led by Mr. Abraham Shepherd, Director of Baptist Global Response for Europe, North Africa, and Middle East.
Relying on the long-term experience in serving the local communities and the needy, the organization CBAid started the development of its educational program for equipping and developing skills among the people actively serving in their communities. “The goal of this seminar is to give the participants tools and skills in creating and leading different projects in order to serve the local communities, but also to encourage them to know that their active engagement in their communities is really important,” said the Director of CBAid, Toma Magda.
The training consisted of mostly practical work by the participants who had the chance to go through the whole practical strategic process of creating and implementing a project in the field of community development. The emphasis was on how to serve the community and engage it in the process of recognizing and searching for solutions for specific needs, and, as Christians, how to learn to live Christ’s love in a practical way in the community where he put us. The participants were divided into three groups where they had the chance to talk and develop ideas and projects that would help concrete communities with their concrete problems. Each group shared every strategic aspect of the process with the others, and together they had a chance to comment and learn.
The participants of the training were leaders and representatives of the churches in Croatia, and leaders of organizations and projects in and outside of Croatian Baptist Union.
