WASH project implemented

Bihać, Bosnia i Herzegovina, August 13th, 2019 –– our organization and IOM successfully launched the WASH project in the refugee camp.

our organization (our organization) in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has successfully launched the WASH project aimed to improve the living conditions of refugees and migrants living in Bihać, northern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Refugees and migrants have extremely limited access to adequate hygiene, which is increasing fear of a possible secondary crisis, i.e. spreading of diseases among refugees and migrants, as well as among the local population. As part of a project that aims to improve the living conditions of refugees and migrants, and to reduce the possibility of spreading of diseases, our organization’s team donated IOM two shower-container units for the needs of refugees and migrants. With that, our organization successfully completed the first phase of this WASH project.

As a reminder, the main goal of a WASH project is to reduce the possibility of faeco-oral transmission of diseases, as well as reduce the exposure to vectors that spread diseases, through:

Promotion of healthy habits,
Providing access to clean water,
Reducing ecological pollution,
Providing conditions that promote basic human dignity, comfort and safety.

our organization currently has one team operating in B&H, following the situation in the region. The team, besides the main project, also supports local Christian communities in their humanitarian endeavors. It does so through providing information and adequate knowledge on working with this vulnerable group, on respecting international humanitarian standards, as well as human rights guaranteed by state and international laws and conventions.

The refugee crisis in B&H, on the border with Croatia, has quickly developed into one of the gravest humanitarian and moral crisis in Europe. The growing number of refugees and migrants living in inadequate conditions, daily trying to cross the border with Croatia, as well as the lack of systemic support by the state, is bringing all involved in providing help to a breaking point – to give up or to continue helping in spite of overwhelming challenges.
